The December planting notes are now posted (apologies for delay) along with some hints on watering. This time of year it is critical that plants get watered well and regularly. The cooler spring has given us a bit of leeway, but with December heat comes more onus! We will be installing permanent irrigation to our fruit trees and berries on the edges of the garden, to ensure they get regular watering and enable plotholders to concentrate on their own areas of garden. Until then, probably over the next month, it will be important to keep up a decent watering regime on the whole garden. Read more in the December Notes and also in the Crop Care section for specific crops.
We’ve begun harvesting our garlic and so far it is looking like a very good crop, with even the smaller cloves bearing decent bulbs. Thanks to Julie for drying some in her studio. We will keep the best bulbs for next season’s seed and look at selling some at Newstead Live! again, as well as distributing amongst gardeners.
