The Honorable Alex Chernov AC QC, Governor of Victoria and Mrs Elizabeth Chernov visited our garden as part of a two-day tour to the Shire. They spent time in Castlemaine and Maldon and then Newstead’s volunteer-run Rural Transaction Centre, the Courthouse (home to Newstead & District Historical Society) and Community Garden.
The Governer and his wife showed a keen interest in our garden, especially the biodynamic compost heap, Ros’s slug and snail deterrents and our Tait pizza oven. Despite the cold, the garden looked lovely in its winter bones – the strong mandala design, bare trees promising a summer harvest, and lots of garlic and greens on show. It was great that so many garden members made the time to come and meet and greet the vice-regals, as well as our local Shire representatives.
